Description
This skills-based series creatively focuses on reading comprehension through poems. Because poetry is a very different style of writing, learning to comprehend what is read in poems requires a different set of skills than those used in regular fiction and nonfiction. Two-page lessons include a poem followed by a variety of specific comprehension activities designed to better understand a poetic style. Each activity features six comprehension skills questions that progress in difficulty. Extension activities following each lesson are designed to further students’ appreciation and understanding of poetry while focusing on the seven multiple intelligences.Four thematically-organized units per book include themes such as Fun and Wonder, All About Me, Different Seasons, Outside My Window, Tales to Tell, Musing, and more.
Helps prepare students for the poetry comprehension sections of standardized tests.
Comprehension skills include facts, sequence, context, main idea, conclusion, and inference.
Poems from Robert Louis Stevenson, Mother Goose, William Wadsworth Longfellow, Robert Browning, Rudyard Kipling, Robert Blake, Robert Frost, Lewis Carroll, and many more.
A two-page assessment begins each book; ideal for pre- and posttesting.
