My Neighborhood – Where Do You Live? Worksheet Activity

Read this information about neighborhoods. Think about the meanings of the words in bold type.

What do you see when you look out your windows at home? Do you see tall buildings and busy streets? Or do you see trees and grass? Is your home an apartment in a big city? Or is it a house away from the city?

Whether you live in a city or town, you live in a neighborhood. Your neighborhood is the streets around your house or apartment building. If you live in an apartment building, you have many neighbors. If you live in a house, your neighbors live in the nearest house.

What can you tell about your neighborhood? What is the name of the street where you live? Are there stores and offices near your home? Do you walk to school? Or do you take the bus to a school in another neighborhood? Is there a park or playground in your neighborhood?

Some neighborhoods are like a small city. Everything people need is there. In a city neighborhood, families can walk to a restaurant. They walk to the post office and the library. Some neighborhoods only have houses. In these neighborhoods, people drive their cars everywhere they need to go.

What can you learn about your neighborhood? If you don’t have a map of your neighborhood, you can make one. What streets and places would you put on the map?
