He penned these words in notes he wrote for a law lecture given before he was elected as the 16th president of the United States. And, living by this motto, he accomplished so very much during his lifetime. Even though his days were cut short, Lincoln’s legacy and wisdom live on. The photo was taken in February of 1865 — two months before he died.
