Readers’ Theater productions offer teachers the flexibility of casting more than one reader for each role as a way to support emerging readers. The 15 Grade 1 Readers’ Theater scripts also include these features that provide additional support for emerging readers: <\/p>\n

  • Simple rhyming text helps increase predictability of the text in the script for “Too Much Noise!”, a traditional Jewish folktale. \n
  • Scripts based on familiar folktales such as “The Three Billy Goats Gruff,” “The Little Red Hen,” and “The Three Little Pigs” increase students’ comfort with read-aloud material. \n
  • A patterned story structure and repeating choral refrain help support beginning readers in “Out in the Woods.” \n
  • Size 8.5″ X 11″ (144 Pages)\n

    The 15 Grade 6 Readers’ Theater scripts are as follows: <\/p>\n

  • “Golem”-based on the Jewish folktale about a creature brought to life to protect a community from persecution \n
  • “Welcome to Ellis Island”-two young Irish immigrants experience the anxiety of facing medical inspectors at Ellis Island \n
  • “Whiz Kid”-Miguel must use his head to win a television game show \n
  • “Romeo and Juliet”-a script based on Shakespeare’s classic tragedy \n
  • “A Trip to Mars”-a scientific expedition to Mars searches for signs of life \n
  • “Kids, Unite!”-young factory workers in the early 1900s organize to improve working conditions \n
  • “Balancing Act”-use this contemporary script about stereotyping to spark a discussion about prejudice and how to respond to it appropriately \n
  • “Sarah Winnemucca: A Leader for Peace”-based on true events in the life of a remarkable Paiute peacemaker \n
  • “Arachne’s Web”-based on the classic Greek myth \n
  • “Muhammed Ali v. the U.S. Draft”-based on the famous fighter’s clash with the American government over his refusal to be drafted \n
  • “To Tell the Truth”-this contemporary script about a girl who embellishes the truth will help spark discussion about values, character, and friendship \n
  • “The Amistad Case”-a courtroom drama based on the true case of 53 Africans and their legal fight for freedom in 1839 \n
  • “Akhbar the King”-based on a folktale from India \n
  • “Flowers from Topaz”-a Japanese American family copes with the hardship of life in an internment camp in the 1940s \n
  • “The Great Transcontinental Railroad Race”-a crew of workers races to lay rails for the Central Pacific Railroad Company in the 1860s
