Readers’ Theater productions offer teachers the flexibility of casting more than one reader for each role as a way to support emerging readers. The 15 Grade 1 Readers’ Theater scripts also include these features that provide additional support for emerging readers: <\/p>\n

  • Simple rhyming text helps increase predictability of the text in the script for “Too Much Noise!”, a traditional Jewish folktale. \n
  • Scripts based on familiar folktales such as “The Three Billy Goats Gruff,” “The Little Red Hen,” and “The Three Little Pigs” increase students’ comfort with read-aloud material. \n
  • A patterned story structure and repeating choral refrain help support beginning readers in “Out in the Woods.” \n
  • Size 8.5″ X 11″ (144 Pages)\n

    The 15 Grade 5 Readers’ Theater scripts are as follows: <\/p>\n

  • “Demeter and Persephone”-based on the classic Greek myth \n
  • “SOS Titanic”-a rescue on the high seas based on true events \n
  • “Getting the Scoop on UFOs”-a high school journalist learns a lesson about objective reporting \n
  • “The Montgomery Bus Boycott”-Rosa Parks, Martin Luther King, Jr., and other historical figures take the stage in this script based on historical events \n
  • “All the Rice in India”-this version of a folktale from India involves students in an intriguing mathematical challenge \n
  • “Enter Bruce Lee”-in this biographical script, students learn about the famous martial artist’s devotion to sharing Chinese culture with the world \n
  • “Haste Makes Waste”-this contemporary script raises important issues about personal responsibility and personal finances \n
  • “Journey to a New World”-based on a folktale from the Ottawa tribe, this script offers a unique perspective on cross-cultural encounters \n
  • “Women in Science”-a high-tech science fair project presents portraits of Marie Curie, Rachel Carson, and Sally Ride \n
  • “Tall Tales from the Wild West”-in this whimsical script, Annie Oakley, Pecos Bill, Paul Bunyan, John Henry, and Sally Ann Thunder all get together to shoot the breeze \n
  • “Writing on the Wall”-this script about a school’s response to a graffiti problem provides the opportunity to discuss values, leadership, and heroes \n
  • “Beauty and the Beast”-based on the classic tale about the power of love \n
  • “The Runaways”-when runaway slaves seek their protection, a Rhode Island family in the late 1700s must choose a position on the difficult issue of slavery \n
  • “Princess Ka`iulani of Hawai`i”-based on real events in the life of the young princess who lived through a period of painful transition in her homeland \n
  • “The Under-Grounders”-this futuristic fantasy takes place after a global environmental disaster
