TACTILE – Children who lack tactile development may have difficulty with intricate tasks such as tying shoe laces or fine craft work such a s crayons scissors and pencils. Puzzles help because the children have to feel the 3 dimentional surfaces of puzzles and this improves the brains ability to interrupt what the hands are touching. VISUAL MOTOR – Hand eye and foot coordination relies on meaningful and efficient feedback through vision, touch and body movement to plan and execute complex motor tasks. Puzzles help because they provide a range of activities that encourage the child to develop imporved visual motor integration. The placement of the piece, the memory of what the piece should look like, the memory of the shape of the piece and the fine judgement as to how to precisely place the piece back into context, help develop these skills. They help maintain posture, balance and resting tone and impact on the level of alertness and activity.
