This resource is designed to teach students not only how to understand the concepts of narrative writing, but also to teach them the strategies and techniques used to create it. They will learn important skills in distinguishing and producing narrative writing – recognizing the “voice” of the narrator, choosing a point of view for their narrative, understanding the difference between active and passive voice, planning a story, developing characters, mapping out a plot, learning how to use dialogue to round out the narratives, and finally, writing and revising drafts of their stories.
