Yang di-Pertuan Agong
Yang di-Pertuan Agong, literally "he who is lord and king" in Malay but usually translated as Supreme Ruler or Paramount Ruler, is the official title of the head of state of Malaysia. The position is often glossed as King in English.Since Malaysia is a constitutional monarchy, the role of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong is largely ceremonial. The constitution specifies that, while power is vested in the Head of the State, this power is exercised on his behalf by the Cabinet headed by the Prime Minister.
In a feature unique to the Malaysian monarchy, the position is rotated every 5 years, with a new ruler elected from the 9 Sultans of the royal states of Johor, Kedah, Kelantan, Negeri Sembilan, Pahang, Perak, Perlis, Selangor and Terengganu. The Yang di-Pertuan Agong has the power to appoint the Yang di-Pertua Negeri, or ceremonial governor, in the other 4 states of Melaka, Penang, Sabah and Sarawak.
The 12th and current Yang di-Pertuan Agong is HRH Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin.
