WNYC

WNYC is a public radio station in New York City. With two broadcast licenses, it is the most widely listened to public radio station in the United States.

It can be tuned at 820 AM and 93.9 FM on the radio dial. Established on June 2, 1922, the 820 AM station is one of the oldest in the United States. The 93.9 FM station was added in 1943. The station was owned by the City of New York until 1995, when the city sought to sell the broadcast licenses for revenue. It was then bought by private citizens through the WNYC Foundation to continue the public radio mission of the station.
