William Moultrie
William Moultrie (
November 23,
1730-
September 27,
1805) was an American military and political leader. He was a general in the
Continental Army during the
Revolutionary War. After the war he represented
South Carolina in the
Continental Congress (
1784) and was twice the governor of the state.
Moultrie County, Illinois is named for him.
