Uzzah

This is an article from the public domain Easton's Bible Dictionary, originally published in 1897.\nThis article is written from a nineteenth century Christian viewpoint, and may not reflect modern opinions or recent discoveries in Biblical scholarship.\nPlease help the Wikipedia by bringing this article up to date. Uzzah - strength, a son of Abinadab, in whose house the men of\nKirjath-jearim placed the ark when it was brought back from the\nland of the Philistines (1 Sam. 7:1). He with his brother Ahio\ndrove the cart on which the ark was placed when David sought to\nbring it up to Jerusalem. When the oxen stumbled, Uzzah, in\ndirect violation of the divine law (Num. 4:15), put forth his\nhand to steady the ark, and was immediately smitten unto death.\nThe place where this occurred was henceforth called Perez-uzzah\n(1 Chr. 13:11). David on this feared to proceed further, and\nplaced the ark in the house of Obed-edom the Gittite (2 Sam.\n6:2-11; 1 Chr. 13:6-13). From Easton's Bible Dictionary (1897)
