USMC War Memorial

The USMC War Memorial (often called the Iwo Jima memorial), depicting the raising of the flag on Mount Suribachi during the Battle of Iwo Jima, is on the grounds of Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington County, Virginia, just across the Potomac River from Washington, D.C It is dedicated to the lives of United States Marines given in service to their country since 1775. Nearby is the Netherlands Carillon.

The statue, sculpted by Felix deWeldon, was cast in Brooklyn, New York, and shipped to its present site. It is about six times life scale.
