UAV

Unmanned Aerial Vehicle refers to robotic aircraft of various sizes. They are used generally for reconnaissance, though some now carry weapons. UAVs do not need an onboard pilot and can be remote controlled. Existing UAVs are small planes, though research continues into building insect-sized UAVs.

UAVs are generally held to be distinct from cruise missiles (as only the former is reusable), but much of the technology is common between the two.
