Tricky Sam Nanton

This article is a stub. You can help Wikipedia by fixing it.

Joe "Tricky Sam" Nanton (1904 - 1946) was a famous trombonist with the Duke Ellington Orchestra. He was a pioneer in using the plunger mute with the trombone and, along with Bubber Miley, helped create the Wah-wah sound.

Nanton also developed a "Ya-ya" technique which was unique. It was a secret he guarded to his early death, even from his band mates.
