The Ronettes

The Ronettes were an American girl group of the 1960s, best known for their work with producer Phil Spector. Ronnie Bennett was the lead singer and, eventually, wife to Spector. Their biggest hits included "Be My Baby", "Walking in the Rain", "(The Best Part of) Breaking Up" and "Baby, I Love You". After a hiatus in the middle of the 60s, the Ronettes (and Spector) re-emerged without much of a popular reaction; musical tastes had moved beyond the girl group sound, and the Ronettes were unable to maintain their relevance. Ronnie Bennett launched a solo career after divorcing Spector in 1973 (see 1973 in music), and the Ronettes broke up.
