The Postal Service

'The Postal Service' is an indie supergroup featuring Ben Gibbard of Death Cab For Cutie, Jimmy Tamborello of Dntel, and Jenny Lewis from Rilo Kiley. Its techno-y poppiness is somewhat reminiscent of the '80s, but it is not retro at all. The Postal Service's name comes from the way the songs were written. Techno master Tamborello would create techno grooves and mail them to singer and lyricist Gibbard, who would then edit them and put his melodies and lyrics over the tracks and mail them back. The two then invited Lewis to sing with them because Rilo Kiley is on the same label as DCFC (Barsuk Records), and the lineup was complete. Despite all of their main bands being active, The Postal Service has supported their full-length album Give Up with a successful tour, and has stated intentions to tour more in the future.
