The Pianist (novel)

The Pianist is a biographical novel written by the Polish musician of Jewish origins Wladyslaw Szpilman. He tells how he survived everyday life and the destruction of the Warsaw ghetto and the Nazi concentration camps of World War II.

A 2002 film version was adapted by Ronald Harwood and stars Adrien Brody, Emilia Fox and Michal Zebrowski. The story was filmed by Roman Polanski in 2001. Polanski was awarded the Palme d'Or (Golden Palm) award of the Cannes film festival on May 26 2002. The film eventually premiered in Warsaw on September 5, 2002. The Pianist was nominated for several Academy Awards, including Best Picture. Adrien Brody won for the Oscar for Best Actor. It has already received a Cesar for best picture in 2003.
