The More the Merrier

The More the Merrier is a 1943 comedy film which makes fun of the World War II time housing shortage, especially in Washington, D.C. A young woman sublets half of her tiny apartment to a middle aged man, who promptly sublets half of his half to a young man. Romance ensues. It stars Jean Arthur, Joel McCrea, Charles Coburn and Richard Gaines.

The movie was written by Richard Flournoy, Lewis R. Foster, Garson Kanin (uncredited), Frank Ross and Robert Russell. It was directed by George Stevens.

It won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor (Charles Coburn) and was nominated for Best Actress in a Leading Role (Jean Arthur), Best Director, Best Picture, Best Writing, Original Story and Best Writing, Screenplay.
