Staffordshire

The historic county of Staffordshire contained most of the Black Country (e.g Wolverhampton, Walsall, West Bromwich) and Stoke-on-Trent, but these are all now independent of the current administrative county of Staffordshire. For geographic purposes it is usual these days to omit all except Stoke.
Major conurbations in Staffordshire thus include Stoke-on-Trent, Burton-upon-Trent, Newcastle-under-Lyme, Tamworth and Stafford itself.
Staffordshire is divided into a number of districts for local government purposes. These are Cannock Chase, East Staffordshire, Lichfield, Newcastle, Staffordshire Moorlands, Stoke-on-Trent, and Tamworth.
