Sounding board

Sounding board is the largest part of string musical instruments body, which produces sound by resonance. Most instruments have two sounding boards: the upper and the lower ones. Some folk instruments have only one sounding board. Upper sounding board usually has some resonant holes in it, which can have different shape (round in guitar, f-holes in violin family instruments, rosette in lute etc.).

In different instruments sounding board can have various particular names like plate, belly (in violin) etc.
