Saturn (car)
General Motors set up its Saturn automobile manufacturing division in 1990, largely to face stiff competition from Japanese manufacturers, especially for smaller vehicles. With Saturn, GM attempted to do something different, and to avoid the conventions of typical American car-making.Saturn has kept some distinction in car sales because from the outset it had a "no-nonsense" approach to selling cars. Saturn has had simple straightforward pricing for its cars, without the complicated dealing and negotiating for which nearly all other car dealers have been infamous.
Saturn's current models as of 2003 include:
- ION, a smaller car which entered the market in late 2002. Comes in four-door and coupe forms.
- L series, a mid-sized car.
- VUE, a small SUV with an available continuously variable transmission (CVT).
