Reverse piracy

Reverse piracy is a term critics use for unfavorable acts of a copyright holder, with which, according to these critics, the copyright holder brings copyright infringement ("piracy") onto itself.

Reverse piracy has been practiced mainly by Japanese console developers, which are Nintendo and Sony Computer Entertainment, Inc.; and by Japanese game publishers.

It includes regional lockout, poor regional decisions, abusing customers, and denying credit for the work. Nintendo is the originator of regional lockout. Anticircumvention rules of the DMCA have been considered by many to be acts of reverse piracy.
