Regent's Park
Regent's Park is one of the Royal Parks of London.John Nash designed a private residential estate set in parkland to raise revenue for the Crown. Called Regent's Park it was built from 1811 onwards although it wasn't until 1845 that park was slowly opened to the public. The area contains Primrose Hill with a great view of Westminster and the City. The public space at the center is mainly open parkland which supports a wide range of facilities and amenities including gardens, a lake with a heronry and waterfowl, sports pitches, enclosed children's playgrounds and in the summer has an Open Air Theatre.
In the north end of the park contains London Zoo. Running through the zoo and around the north end of the park is Regents Canal which joins up to the Grand Union Canal to the west.
John Nash, the famous architect, was commissioned by The Prince Regent to construct the Park in a grand style, creating a lake and many luxurious villas surrounded by a beautiful landscape. Rumour has it that Nash was only offered the job because his wife was, or had been, The Prince Regent's mistress!
