Pachelbel's canon
Pachelbel's canon in D-minor is the most famous work of Johann Pachelbel. It was written in or around 1680 as chamber music for 3 violins and a bass continuo. It was and first published along with a gigue in the same key.It is commonly heard at weddings. It can be broken up into 5 sections – parallel, anti-line, reserve, expansed, and reduced.
In 1991, RCA put out a compilation CD containing 8 different versions of it, including performances by James Galway, Isao Tomita, and the Canadian Brass orchestra.
