Operation Chromite

During the Korean War, Operation Chromite was the United Nations amphibious invasion at Inchon, Korea.

This assault flanked the entire North Korean thrust into the Republic of Korea and took the strategic initiative from the invaders.

Executed at 0630 hours, 15 September, 1950 the lead elements of U.S. X Corps hit three beaches near the center of the city. The sudden appearance of the U.N. forces so far behind North Korean lines unhinged their entire attack. U.N. forces quickly took the offensive, driving north. Their assault continued until the Chinese sent troops into the war.
