Omotic languages

The Omotic languages, along with the Cushitic languages, are Afro-Asiatic languages spoken in northeast Africa. Most Omotic speakers live in southwestern Ethiopia. The Omotic languages are highly agglutinative and appear to be related to the Afrasian languages.

The Geez alphabet is used to write all the Omotic languages.

Languages sometimes included in this group include:

• Gimira-Yem (Janjero)-Kefoid
• Dizoid
• Aroid
• Mao

Whether the old Cushitic language family should be split in two in this way is still controversial.
