Miracle on Ice
On February 22, 1980, a young USA ice hockey team held a 4-3 lead against a veteran Soviet Union squad in the semifinals match at the 1980 Winter Olympics. The Americans had been given no hope of beating the Soviets. As the final seconds of the game ticked away, announcer Al Michaels exclaimed, "Do you believe in miracles? Yes!" The media quickly coined the term "Miracle on Ice" to describe one of the greatest upsets in sports. The USA team later beat the team from Finland to win the gold medal. It was made into a movie of the same name in 1989 starring Karl Malden and Steve Guttenburg.
