Maxim (magazine)
Maxim is a men's magazine.The magazine features women (including popular actresses, singers, or other female celebrities) in sexually suggestive poses, usually wearing lingerie or other brief attire. However the American version of the magazine has never featured any nudity. There is some controversy as to whether or not this should be classified as pornography. The United States government, for one, does not classify it as such. Wal-Mart has recently decided not to carry the magazine, but did not specify the reason(s) involved in the decision.
Other regular features of the magazine are short articles on subjects like sports, movies, television, video games, cars, crime, and drinking which are considered to be of interest to the magazine's young male audience. Every issue features extensive reviews and endorsements of new products, many of whose producers have presumedly made financial arrangments with the magazine.
Maxim quickly became a highly popular magazine upon its introduction in the United States and soon prompted a number of subsiduaries and competitors.
