Mark Oliphant

Sir Mark Oliphant (October 8, 1901 - July 14, 2000),

Born Marcus Laurence Elwin Oliphant in Kent Town, a suburb of Adelaide, South Australia.

He attended the University of Adelaide.

He worked under, and beside, his mentor Ernest Rutherford.

Their research was instrumental in the initiation of the secret Manhattan Project, for which Sir Mark was a significant contributor.

He returned to Australia to help set up the Australian National University in Canberra.

He was knighted.

He was Governor of South Australia.

Mark Oliphant Conservation Park is named in his honour.
