Maraschino

Maraschino is a bittersweet, clear liqueur flavored with Marasca cherries, which are grown in northern Italy (near Trieste), Slovenia and Croatia. It has an almond-like flavor, which comes from the crushed pits of the cherries.

Maraschino liqueur has no connection (other than historical) with so-called maraschino cherries.
