Legislative Council of Hong Kong
The Legislative Council of Hong Kong (LegCo or Legco) is the legislature of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China.The term of office is four years, except for the first term for the temporary legislative council in 1998 which was 2 years.
In the last election in 2000, 24 members were directly elected, 6 were elected from an electoral college and 30 where elected from functional constituencies. The next election in 2003, 30 will be directly elected and 30 will be elected from functional constituencies. The method of election after 2007 has not been specified.
The voting system adopted in geographical constituencies (GC) is List Proportional Representation (PR) using Hare Method, which is considered to contribute to proportionality in assembly.

The Basic Law states that the ultimate aim is to expand the franchise to universal suffrage for all the Legco members.
The Legislative Council of Hong Kong is housed in the Old Supreme Court building in Central since 1985. It was built on reclaimed land, and opened on January 15, 1912.
The two-storey granite building is neo-classical in style supported by Ionic columns. It is surmounted by a blind-folded statue of Justice, represented by the Greek goddess Themis.
The Exterior of the Old Supreme Court is one of the 77 declared monuments of Hong Kong.
