Leda (mythology)

In Greek mythology, Leda was a Spartan Queen, wife of Tyndareus and mother of Castor, Polydeuces, Phoebe, Philonoe, Clytemnestra and Helen.

Leda, was seduced by Zeus, who disguised himself as a swan. She laid two eggs, each producing two children. From one egg, Polydeuces and Helen were the children of Zeus; from the other, Castor and Clytemnestra were the children of Tyndareus.

See also Leda and the Swan for the poem by William Yeats.
