Jay and Silent Bob

Jay and Silent Bob are the two fictional characters created by actor-writer-director Kevin Smith (who plays Silent Bob) and appearing in several of his movies. Jay is portrayed by actor Jason Mewes as an oversexed, overdrugged, hyper long-hair. Silent Bob, as portrayed by Smith, is his best friend, who rarely says anything, but says it eloquently.

The two characters have appeared in the following movies:

and also an animated television series of Clerks.

In Dogma, Ben Affleck's character Bartleby shouts "Schüller Bob! I'll get you for this, Schüller Bob!" as Silent Bob throws him off a train. According to Smith, Affleck ad-libbed this, under the theory that Silent Bob has been thwarting Bartleby throughout history, so Bartleby recognizes him, and shouts in German, because German is the language spoken in heaven. It says a great deal about Kevin Smith's directorial style that he left this in the film.
