Jacobo Timmerman

Jacobo Timmerman (January 6, 1923 - November 11, 1999) was a publisher, human rights and anti-torture activist, and author.

During the 1970s, he published a newspaper in Argentina that publicized human rights violations by the Argentinian government, in particular calling attention to the disappearances of people during that government's "Dirty War". As a result, he was arrested, and during interrogations he was subjected to electric shock treatments, beatings, and solitary confinement. He chronicled his experiences in his 1981 book, "Prisoner Without a Cell, Name Without a Number".

After his release, he emigrated to Israel.
