Irish presidential election, 1938

The Irish presidential election in 1938 was the first Irish presidential election, held to fill the new office of President of Ireland.

After all party contacts, only one candidate was nominated, Douglas Hyde, who was initially suggested by Fine Gael and endorsed by Fianna Fáil.

As there was only one nomination, Hyde was declared elected without the need for a poll.
