A private higher education institute in Beirut, Lebanon. Haigazian is named in honor of Dr. Armenag Haigazian, former headmaster of the Jenanian Apostolic Institute in Konya, Turkey. The University was founded on October 17, l955 by the Union of Armenian Evangelical Churches in the Near East (UAECNE) and the Armenian Missionary Association of America (AMAA) as a liberal arts college to assist in the preparation of teachers and pastors. Haigazian operated under its original name of "College" until 1989. In keeping with Near Eastern nomenclature, the name was changed to Haigazian University College in 1992. On December 28, 1996 the Ministry of Culture and Higher Education of Lebanon issued decree number 9657, which authorized the institution to change its name to Haigazian University. Empowered by its newly acquired authorization from the Ministry of Culture and Higher Education to offer graduate programs, the institution has started three M.A. programs: Educational Administration and Supervision, General Psychology, and Clinical Psychology. Plans are also under way to begin an M.B.A. program. Through its 46 years of history, Haigazian University served Lebanon by empowering its valuable resources for a better life and service.
