Haaretz
Haaretz is an Israeli newspaper, founded in 1919. It is published in Hebrew, with an abridged English edition published as an annex to International Herald Tribune issues distributed in Israel. The newspaper's editorial line was defined by Gershom Schocken, who was chief editor between 1939-1990. Haaretz is to this day (2003) owned by the Schocken family. The current editors (as for 2003) are Hanoch Mermeri and Yoel Esteron.
Unlike Maariv and Yediot Aharonot dailies, the Haaretz has clear political views. Haaretz views can be described as "leftist" although its view of economics is a capitalist pro-Tacherist approach.
Haaretz's views on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict are leftist and represent the politicial agenda of Meretz (Israeli Social Democartic Left party) and the dovish part of the Israeli Labor Party (Ha-Avoda).
