Godalming

Godalming is a town in the Waverley district of the county of Surrey, England, seven kilometers south of Guildford. It is built on the banks of the River Wey. The town prospered from the mediaeval wool trade, and then from its location on the London to Portsmouth road and at the southernmost navigable point of the River Wey.

Significant buildings in Godalming include Godalming Parish Church, the Pepperpot, Charterhouse School and Edwin Lutyens's Red House. Winkworth Arboretum lies nearby.

The town of Godalming was the first town to use electric street lighting. To find out more you can visit the towns museum website. http://www.godalming-museum.org.uk/
