Freddie Hubbard

Frederick Dewayne Hubbard, an American jazz trumpeter, was born in 1938 in Indianapolis, Indiana. His jazz career began after he moved to New York City in 1958. After working with Ornette Coleman (he may be heard on Free Jazz), Eric Dolphy, Slide Hampton, J. J. Johnson, Philly Joe Jones, Quincy Jones, Monk Montgomery, Wes Montgomery, Oliver Nelson, and Sonny Rollins, he became famous while playing with Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers. By 1970 he was established as the leading trumpeter of his day, but a series of commercially oriented albums destroyed his reputation.
