Fishponds are usually designed for kois and goldfish because kois and goldfish are hardier than [your] average aquarium fishes. They can withstand the outdoor environment such as cold temperatures [and presence] of algae. The size of a pond typically determines how fast and how big the fishes will grow. Generally, the bigger the pond the faster and bigger the fish will grow.
