Evelyn Hernandez

The torso of Evelyn Hernandez (born c. 1978) was found in San Francisco Bay in July of 2002. She had last been heard from on May 1, 2002, when she talked by telephone to her boyfriend, 36-year-old Herman Aguilera, and to her sister. Hernandez, a legal immigrant from El Salvador was due to give birth to her second child the following week. The whereabouts of her 5-year old son, Alex, and that of her unborn child, remain unknown.

On May 31, 2002, Hernandez's wallet, still containing money, was found near a shallow canal off of East Grand Avenue in South San Francisco, two blocks from where Aguilera worked at a limousine company. He has not been ruled out as a suspect.

Allegedly, Aguilera's wife did not know about Hernandez or of the baby.

On October 5, 2002, the Visual and Performing Arts Department at the University of San Francisco held a march on Mission Street in memory of Hernandez. It was part of the Regional Alternative Theatre conference.

Friends and family of Hernandez tried to get Hernandez's case featured on America's Most Wanted, but were rejected because no warrant had been issued for a suspect.

Hernandez had also worked as a vocational nurse and at Costco.

Hernandez lived in the Crocker-Amazon area of southern San Francisco.
