;Common name: Dog's tooth violet. ;Family: Liliaceae. ;Description: a genus of tuberous perennials, usually spring-flowering. They have attractive pendant flowers and mottled leaves and are hardy. Best grown in shade so that the tubers don't overheat or dry out. ;Propagation: best by seed in autumn or by division of tubers. ;Uses: the bulb is edible cooked or dried and can be ground into flour. The leaves can also be cooked.
