Duke of Clarence

Duke of Clarence is a title which has been traditionally awarded to junior members of the English and British royal families.

The Dukes of Clarence are as follows:

Duke of Clarence (1st Creation, Peerage of England, 1362)

• Lionel of Antwerp, 2nd son of King Edward III (1338-1368)

Duke of Clarence (2nd Creation, Peerage of England, 1412)

• Thomas of Lancaster, 2nd son of King Henry IV (1388-1421)

Duke of Clarence (3rd Creation, Peerage of England, 1461)

• George Plantagenet, brother of King Edward IV, 1449-1478

Duke of Clarence and St. Andrews (Peerage of Great Britain, 1789)

• Prince William of Great Britain and Ireland, third son of King George III, ascended throne in 1830 as King William IV. (1765-1837)

Duke of Clarence and Avondale (Peerage of the United Kingdom, 1890)

• Prince Albert Victor of Wales, eldest son of Albert Edward, Prince of Wales (later King Edward VII) (1864-1892)
