Composition (logical fallacy)

The logical fallacy of composition ascribes properties of a component of something to the thing itself. In a way it is the reverse of the division fallacy.

Examples:

  1. The atoms in this chemical compound are invisible, so the compound must also be invisible.
  2. Scandinavians are strong and brave, so Scandinavian countries must have the most powerful military forces in the world.
