Citium

Citium is the ancient city of modern day Larnaka in Cyprus. It was formerly known as Larnax derived from the Greek word for tomb, due to the many tombs found in the area.

Zeno of Citium died at sea defending the city of Citium. His officers kept the news of his death secret. "Even in death he was victorious" was attributed to Zeno. A statue of Zeno of Citium stands proudly on the sea front promenade of Larnaka town.
