Aulus Plautius

Aulus Plautius was the first Roman governor of Britain, serving from 43 to 46 (47?) A.D. Plautius was a famous Roman general under the emperor Claudius. From approximately 36 to 42, he managed the Roman province Pannonia, in the region of nowadays Hungary. Along with four legions, II Augusta, IX Hispana, XIV Gemina and XX Valeria Victrix, and approximately 20,000 auxilary troops, he helped to invade Britain for Rome in May 43. He was granted an ornamenta triumphalia, a very highly regarded award in ancient Rome.
